Use your Besdata otoscope

Stream, capture and import ear images with the Besdata digital otoscope.

What this is: how to use the Besdata digital otoscope with ProEX.

Who it’s for: nurses and health workers doing ear examinations for a remote clinician.

Set it up

  1. Gather the otoscope body, tip camera, speculum and USB-C cable.
  2. Line the tip camera up with the notch, insert it and screw it in firmly.
  3. Fit the speculum over the tip camera.

Stream into ProEX

  1. Switch the otoscope on first, with no cable attached. The power button is at the top right.
  2. Once it is on, connect the USB-C cable to the side of the otoscope and to the station.
  3. In ProEX, open Exam Mode, then Camera, and select USB Camera (or your otoscope’s name).

The live view now shows in ProEX and on the call.

Capture images for the best quality

Capture images on the otoscope itself, then import them into ProEX. Capturing from the ProEX screen can reduce quality and slightly distort the image.

  • Press the Capture button once to freeze the image.
  • Press and hold Capture to save it to the otoscope’s memory.
  • Press Capture again to return to the live view.

Video recording uses the same button with a different press sequence. See the quick guide below for the exact steps.

Import images into ProEX

  1. With the USB cable connected, switch the otoscope off, then on again. This puts it in storage mode.
  2. In ProEX, open Exam Mode and click Import Media.
  3. Select one file at a time (photo or video).
  4. Check the Gallery for the imported files, then Save Session.

Troubleshooting

  • No live view. Switch the otoscope off, unplug the cable, switch it on again, then reconnect. The otoscope must be on before the cable goes in.
  • Images look distorted. Capture on the otoscope and import, rather than capturing from the ProEX screen.
