Use the 12-lead ECG

Record a 12-lead ECG and share it into ProEX or a virtual care call.

What this is: how to record a 12-lead ECG and share it with a remote clinician.

Who it’s for: nurses, remote area nurses and health workers trained in 12-lead ECG.

Connect the ECG

  1. Connect the USB connector (with thumbscrew) to the ECG and the other end to the rugged tablet.
  2. Connect the patient cable to the 15-pin connector on the ECG. Check both cables are firmly connected.
  3. Turn on the tablet. The ECG feed shows on screen.

Share into ProEX or a call

  1. Connect the HDMI cable to the mini HDMI port on the side of the tablet.
  2. Connect the HDMI-to-USB converter to the large HDMI end of the cable.
  3. Plug the USB end of the converter into the station running ProEX. The computer sees the ECG as a USB camera.
  4. In ProEX, select ECG Exam Mode. If it isn’t selected, choose the ECG from the device list.

The clinician can now see the ECG live, and you can capture it against the patient record.

Prepare the patient

  • Make sure the patient is warm and relaxed.
  • Remove clothing from the chest and shave hair if needed so the electrodes stick.
  • Clean the skin and let it air dry. Lotions and body oils cause interference.
  • Apply the electrodes and check they are sticking well. The patient cable follows IEC/AHA colour coding. See the placement diagram in the PDF guide.

Record and analyse

  1. On the tablet, select Patient ID for a registered patient, or New Patient for a new one.
  2. Acquire the ECG, then tap ANALYZE. The software analyses the signal and generates the report.
  3. Save the report.
  4. To review or print later, go to MENU, choose Review, select the patient ID and the report.
  5. Remove the electrodes from the patient.
