Set up for a consultation

The checks to run before the clinician joins, so the consult starts on time.

What this is: the technical set-up for a Vision consult, from switching on to the clinician joining.

Who it’s for: nurses and health workers at the patient end.

For the clinical side (consent, identity, handover and documentation), see Before, during and after a virtual care consultation in your Aged Care or Remote and Primary Care section.

Ten minutes before

  1. Switch on the station and sign in to Vision.
  2. Run the pre-session audio checklist.
  3. Have the clinical devices you need charged and within reach.
  4. Check the room: private, quiet, good light on the patient’s face, and nothing sensitive in view.

Join the room and check your devices

  1. From the dashboard, click Join Virtual Room.
  2. The first time you join, click Allow when the browser asks to use the camera and microphone. If you missed it, click the padlock icon in the address bar, open the permissions for the page and allow both.
  3. Speak and check the volume indicator under your image moves.
  4. Select the front-facing webcam for video and the speakerphone (for example, the Jabra speakerphone) for audio.
  5. Turn on Background blur if anything sensitive is behind you.
  6. Turn on Set as default pair to save your camera and microphone for next time.
  7. Check the speaker: right-click the volume icon near the system clock, open Sound settings and click the volume slider. You should hear a chime.
  8. Click Continue to meeting.

Bring in the patient camera and the clinician

  1. Click + Add, then Add camera, and select the patient camera (usually UVC Camera).
  2. Click + Add, then Add guest, and enter the clinician’s email if they don’t already have the link.
  3. When the clinician joins, hover over their video and click Second Monitor. Their video now shows on the patient facing monitor, so the patient sees them face to face.

Share clinical devices

Click ExamVu in the toolbar. ProEX starts and is shared with the call. Log in with the Clinician account and open Exam Mode. See ProEX Exam Mode.

For the stethoscope, open TrueSteth from the toolbar. See Conduct a stethoscope exam with TrueSteth.

At the end

  1. Save images and readings to the patient in ProEX and export a PDF if you need one for the care record. See Patient data and PDF reports.
  2. Leave the call, or click End for all if you are the host.
  3. Clean the devices you used and put the station back on charge.
